Recorded before the rest of the world went “holy crap look at that sinkhole in Guatamala!” here’s the timely Sinkhole episode of Caustic Soda! We’ve also got a lot of follow-ups to previous episodes! Pay special attention to Joe “Huge Doctor Who Fan” Fulgham totally brain-fart about Doctor Who actors!

And for the record, the Silurian Sea Devils first appeared during Jon “The Third Doctor” Pertwee’s run in the episode “The Sea Devils”. Yes, I knew this, yes I was out of it for some reason. – Joe.

I’m going to punch you. The story you stumped yourself with was ‘The Lurking Fear’, the first HPL story I ever read and one of my faves.

Since I’m writing, here is some more information for your sinkhole podcast…

El Debarge was also responsible for the robotic anthem “Who’s Johnny?” from Short Circuit.

Also, there is more about molemen! For example, the Fantastic Four’s first issue had them fighting the Moleman and his underground minions!

Finally, since Kevin asked, I remembered this article which explains why sinkholes are typically round…

I’m glad nobody called me on how I got the characters mixed up on Inhumanoids.

I was more upset about the HP Lovecraft story but don’t think I didn’t notice the Inhumanoids debacle.

“Somebody” sent you a link to the Australian cannibal woman? Really? “Somebody?” Ah well.

I don’t know if you saw this article saying the Guatemala hole isn’t technically a sinkhole:

FRED! I forgot to print out the notes! And then someone interrupted me! Like they always do.

@ banks!: I agree! I was screaming at my iPod “Lurking Fear! Lurking Fear!” It, too, was the first HPL I ever read, and is still in my top 3 favorite stories.

The exchange about “They laughed at me for putting snowshoes on these chariot horses!” nearly caused me to get into a car accident from the hilarious.

  • What!

Not really a huge sinkhole but this is right near my hometown of Leadville, CO.

Don’t feel bad there are to many good Lovecraft stories, to remember on the spot.

The music! What is it? Who made it?
Also, you are awsome! Thanks for making my way to work enjoyable!

I know it’s super late to be bringing this up, but in the novel of Dune there were patches of spice-gas beneath the desert surface that would erupt upward while pulling anything anything on the surface downwards, which is how the character Dr. Kynes dies. (I guess it’s actually more of a quicksand thing, but, you know…)

I expected to hear about the sinkholes of the Gears of War game series. Too bad. that was pretty epic.

“Ancient aliens who built the pyramids were here!” is now going to be my go-to answer for nearly anything I am asked. Thank you.
