Chris “Sword of the Stars” Stewart joins us to discuss the fourth circle of Hell, Marcu Licinius Crassus’ realty schemes, El Dorado, war profiteering, Ponzi schemes, Ford & the nazis, Uncle Scrooge and the poor little rich boy.

I’d write a bigger introduction, but these letters are MINE ALL MINE! Today on Caustic Soda: Greed!

I may be a craven little coward, but I’m a *greedy* craven little coward. I just gotta have that five Gs! – Daffy Duck

To further the topic of war profiteering, there is the case of the Swiss banks profiteering from laundering stolen Nazi gold. The Swiss banks also hung on to the accounts of Jews who perished in the second world war. Eventually the Swiss banks succumbed to pressure and set up a fund to return the money to the victims of the Holocaust but the fund is less than the billions estimated the Swiss banks took in.

I’m glad you guys got into a little bit of the political and anti-religious stuff. A greed episode would have felt amiss without talking about something like blood diamonds. Did you know that there’s a rapper out there called MC 900 Foot Jesus, as a joke against Roberts?

I didn’t know that’s where their name came from. Albeit, I’ve listened to very little of their work but liked what I heard.

I wanted to mention that when I visited the Vatican Museum there was an admission fee. The regular adult admission is 15 Euros now, but I don’t remember what it was when I visited. Also interesting is that there is only one way to go through the museum – like a one way street. I assume is to keep things flowing well because of all the visitors that come through. However, I was surprised to find that this pre-planned path leads you through several small gift shop areas and you have to go through each one. That always struck me as greedy.

Young boys get in free, right?

      Ziiing.

Wow. How did I get this far behind in my Soda Jerk listening duties?

Has anyone suggested Brewster’s Millions for inclusion in a follow-up to this ep?

Montana Max from Tiny Toon Adventures was an embodiment of greed. He even does a song cover:

In the final moments of this episode the team went into full geek mode.
    It was awesome.

It wouldn’t matter now that it’s been four years, but I was listening to this and you guys mentioned Aguirre, but not Werner Herzog’s “Aguirre: Wrath of God”! It’s a (skeptically) historic take on the expedition, starring the creepy Klaus Kinski. It’s pretty art house, but its mood leaves you uneasy throughout. It’s a neat perspective of the expedition.

    Great series, by the way~

There’s a Japanese Superhero show similar to the style of Power Rangers called Kamen Rider OOO (O’s). The enemies are called Greeds and they prey on people’s desires. The only item that makes everyone in the show powerful are medals that look like coins and so everyone, including the hero, is fighting for it so they can be more powerful. Everyone is very greedy. It’s a great show. I highly recommend it
