  1. You should have mentioned the interesting names for different types of Lava, other than Pillow Lava:

Pahoehoe (Pa-Ho-ee-Ho-ee) and Aa (Aah-aah). They’re Hawaiian words that have been accepted by the scientific community. They should be mentioned, if only for their ridiculous sounding names.

Pahoehoe is the ropy stuff you see creeping towards houses and such.

Aa is the sharp stuff that’s all broken up, and tends to move much quicker.

  2. I know Joe wasn’t sure why everyone was setting out on pre-dawn hikes. Well, the Volcanos they were hiking around were in Java and Bali, both places are hot, so maybe it was just to avoid the heat.

    Love the show guys!!!

  3. More heavy metal…

Black metal band Satyricon released their album Volcano in 2002; it is probably one of the most successful black metal albums ever. It’s not a “pure” black metal album as seen in the track Fuel for Hatred, it incorporates elements of punk and rock. The main volcanic feature is the last track Black Lava which is 14:31 seconds long and is about the wrath gods as represented by a volcano erupting.
