Honourable mention should go to the Achiles/Hector fight between Brad Pitt and Eric Bana in the movie Troy. Hack movie, great fight.
How about Bismarck’s sausage duel?
my favorite duel is in Blackadder series 3 where Blackadder takes the place of prince George in a duel against the duke of Wellington. they duel with Vickers-Armstrong 4-pounder cannonettes., but *spoilers* Blackadder is saved by a cigarillo case emblazoned with a crossed dead french men on a mound of dead french men motif in his breast pocket.
D’oh! I should have been quicker. 🙂 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duel_and_Duality
Would you class Cartman’s use of Roshambo (http://southpark.wikia.com/wiki/Roshambo) on Pip in the Mecha-Streisand episode as a duel? It was pretty frickin’ funny, I know that.
There was a more genuine duel in S03E04 of Castle, an episode called Punked about a death in a steampunk duel.
Actually, one thing I hadn’t realised was the whole idea of a duel being the way to let (the) God(s) decide who should be the victor. It happened to come up just in the last day or so for me as I’m listening to the audiobook of A Game of Thrones, and just got to the duel in the Eyrie. I’m sure there are more duels all the way through the Song of Ice and Fire series.
Thanks for reminding me about Ridicule too; I saw it as a kid and the one thing I can remember from it was the guy getting pissed on – how anyone could find that erotic I will never know. It grossed me out big time, but I didn’t get most of the film anyway, being too young.
Great ep guys, and welcome back Lisa! 🙂
