1. I’m going to punch you. The story you stumped yourself with was ‘The Lurking Fear’, the first HPL story I ever read and one of my faves.

   Since I’m writing, here is some more information for your sinkhole podcast…

   El Debarge was also responsible for the robotic anthem “Who’s Johnny?” from Short Circuit.

   Also, there is more about molemen! For example, the Fantastic Four’s first issue had them fighting the Moleman and his underground minions!

7. @ banks!: I agree! I was screaming at my iPod “Lurking Fear! Lurking Fear!” It, too, was the first HPL I ever read, and is still in my top 3 favorite stories.

I know it’s super late to be bringing this up, but in the novel of Dune there were patches of spice-gas beneath the desert surface that would erupt upward while pulling anything anything on the surface downwards, which is how the character Dr. Kynes dies. (I guess it’s actually more of a quicksand thing, but, you know…)
