Jehovah

Dr. Rob Tarzwell joins us once again as we look at the the wrathful, jealous, angry, drunken (ok, we have no direct evidence of drunkeness) God of the Old Testament: Jehovah!

  1. Good episode, though I think you all could have been a bit more blasphemous….. I found some curious information about the origins of Jehovah, that he may have started out as a mountain god by the name of El Shaddai worshiped by the tribal Mesopotamians. Details at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Shaddai

Hey, you guys should do an episode about splinters!

    1. Well, Perhaps not El Shaddai, at least not a god. The Wiki article translated the Hebrew incorrectly. El Shaddai means God/provider because the root word indicates something with breasts. Yep. I think, though, that its mostly correct, El (YHWH’s first alias before Jehovahs Witness protection) was a Canaanite mountain god. One god of many. Check out Psalm 82 and the first part of Genesis.

  2. Very awesome guys, but I can’t believe you left out the story of David and The Foreskins. David wants to marry Saul’s daughter, but Saul says that David must first collect the foreskins of 100 Philistines. I guess Saul figures at least one of the Philistines will object and Saul will be rid of David.

Much to Saul’s surprise, David goes above and beyond the call and kills 200 Philistines for their foreskins. After that Saul simply cannot refuse and provides his daughter to David. Perhaps he was worried about where David would turn that foreskin-hungry gaze if he didn’t.

    It’s in Samuel 18:25-27 or the Cracked.com version: http://www.cracked.com/article_15699_the-9-most-badass-bible-verses_p3.html

  3. You guys forgot two things…

    1) You didn’t link any information regarding the song you played at the intermission. I quite enjoyed it and would like to know what the song was called and who sang it.

    2) You forgot to mention the plague of ‘cats and dogs living together’

  5. OH YA. I forgot to mention that Scott Bennie is indeed a local boy. I used to play D&D (and other games with him) out in Abbotsford and Chilliwack. I got to sit in on a game of Scott testing out some stuff for Testament. Scott has done a tonne of work in the RPG field so hopefully he’ll be recognised for just more than Testament.

  6. Excellent podcast. You guys should do a Satan or demon episode, too (don’t forget the Satanic Panic- fun for the *whole* family).

  7. I recently played this episode for my father. He laughed a lot, and said he was going to steal some of your lines. Thank you.
