Psycho Therapy

Today on Caustic Soda your hosts Kevin, Joe, and Toren are joined once again by Dr. Rob. We discuss the gruesome, horrible “treatments” from the past and present. Lobotomies, electro-convulsive therapy, beatings and trepanning — there’s a long history of disgusting, painful and dangerous methods and we cover them all!

This episode’s musical interlude is “Mairzy Doats” performed by Jo Stafford & The Pied Pipers

  1. Leeson! Did you get a movie lobotomy?! Angelina Jolie WON an academy award for Girl Interrupted!

    1. I knew she was in the mix. But it was just a makeup Oscar, her boobs got robbed, they should have won for “Gia”.

  2. In the Life magazine link go to page 74.
Bug-a-boo, with and without D.D.T. You too can be poisoned in the comfort of your own home.

  4. This is undoubted the most horrifying mind terrifying episode of this podcast and I ate lunch during the cannables episode. Just the thought of someone miscatsgorizing or more horrifying “correctly” categorizing myself of with an illness that I may or may not have and then subsequently treating it with metal spikes in the brain or spikes around the penis is enough for me to pull my hoodie over my head as I continue to listen. If anything that is a good review, I learned horrible things and was terrified by the surgical skill and medical precision of doctors…not much for a while. Keep making them but this was especailly chilling to me as someone who has spurious depression and is generally forward thinking. Also my grandpa is a child psycho analyst. As far as I know he did not use surgery or medications. Either way I would much rather the LSD orgy bus….compared to most things in Life.

  5. Anyone else catch Suckerpunch? I quite enjoyed it, but to be fair it felt like watching a game at times. I assume it was based on a comic, but I’m not sure.
