Fuck Downey. Joe is Iron Man. A whole bottle of tequila in 45 minutes? Craaaaaazy.

We had several stops and starts, plus the usual editing so this episode was probably over two hours of time.
It was worth it for the podcast but that day pretty much marked the end of getting really drunk for me. I’ll still tip a few socially, but damn, I’m not as young and resistant as I used to be.
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about Screech what with Joe’s Newfoundland heritage. I believe that Screech is now a brand of rum but I’ve always known it as slang describing almost any cheap, high alcohol booze such as moonshine.
If you drank Screech, you could have even ‘Screeched In’ during the show.
Screeching In is a longtime custom of many older bars in Newfoundland, in which the person is to drink a shot of screech, kiss a codfish on the mouth, and answer the question “Is ye an honourary Newfoundlander?” with the phrase “Indeed I is me ol’ cock, and long may your big jib draw.”
Honestly, considering how the conversation was going by the end, anything involving the words “me ol’ cock” could have proved disastrous. That said, I didn’t think you guys would ever top the “Fecal Matters” episode, but congratulations, you just about had me crying tears of hilarity all the way down Bay Street tonight. (You’d better start next week’s show with a follow-up on just how wretched y’all felt the next morning.)
Hear! Hear! Phav!
Let us know how shitty you felt the next day.
Also, The list goes on and on for this topic in the pop culture section… One of my favorites, tho, is Shakes the Clown with Bob “Cat” Goldthwait. How can you go wrong with a drunk clown? They’re not as scary as real clowns.

There’s a Screech relative called Yukon Hooch.

When I was working at an auto-parts warehouse in Burnaby, the Whitehorse branch (#331) would send down a bottle once or twice a year. Work would be odd on those days.
Some follow-ups on on this episode…Not disgusting, but strange, I have recipes for and have had the opportunity (once) to try a traditional Polish mead meant to ferment/bottle condition for 100 years before being consumed.
Also, a good reference work for the effects of alcohol that’s still pretty accessible to the laymen is Buzz (http://www.amazon.com/Buzz-Science-Lore-Alcohol-Caffeine/dp/0195092899/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1305477171&sr=1-3).
Funniest ep so far guys, great stuff! Another choice phrase I learned (from a Canadian exchange student, akshully) is “ravishly blotto”.

Oh, in Australia we call alcohol-induced courage “Dutch courage” for some reason. Dunno why, I’m afraid.
The book of Leaving Las Vegas (by Hunter S Thompson, famous for Gonzo journalism) is a very entertaining, if bizarre and trippy read. He was on huge amounts of drugs at the time, not just alcohol. Haven’t seen the film yet, so I don’t know how it compares.

Ah, Pruno. There’s a recipe for it, California-style, on the defunct-but-archived website of the Black Table.

one of my favorite episodes so far 🙂
some famous television drunks to add to the pop culture:
the semi-catatonic Father Jack from the BBC comedy series Father Ted. noteworthy for his recurring line: ‘Fek! Arse! Whores! DRINK!’
and the girls from Absolutely Fabulous.
(the brits really love their alcoholics)
I also drank mead for the first time last year, it’s great to expand one’s drinking horizons.
I was surprised that there was no mention of Mad Men; what with all of the drinking, alcoholic characters like Freddy Rumsen & Archie Whitman and that whole arc in the 4th season where Don Draper was afraid that he was becoming an alcoholic.

Hey guys,
Great episode. What was that sound clip used on the break with the guy and girl laughing manically while he asks her if she likes the drink? It was hilarious and would love to know where it came from.
Thanks.
You know what would have been awesome?
If you had Zane Lamprey on the Alcohol show.
(No offense to Dr. Rob)
He was the host of the Three Sheets travel drinking show which was funny and educational. His more recent program is just stupid but he is a funny guy.
